Cloudy Morning

As I drove into work this morning, fog swirled around my car. It felt like I was driving in the bay area. I liked it. Sunny days are grand, but I prefer overcast days and rain. I like thunder too, but only when someone is around. Being alone while thunderstorms hit never was an issue until about 15 years ago when a bad one hit in the middle of the night that shook my apartment so badly I thought for sure that the window was going to shatter and the roof was going to tumble down. I never got over that.

But enough about thunder.

The cloudy morning brightened my day, not that I was feeling gloomy, but it just brought about wonderful thoughts and feelings. The end of summer is near, school has begun for many, and autumn is right around the corner! Autumn speaks to me and touches my soul. It is the sign of new beginnings and the end of things that need to be left behind. It brings forth good memories of my childhood, and yes, even some bad ones, but autumn helps the healing process.

While I've had better summers, this one was good, but I can't wait for the fall.

Woes

So my cousin, who is also my best friend, will be moving away in about a month. Her hubby got a new job in the bay area, which really isn’t all that far, but still things won’t be the same.

We did a lot together, especially attend Weight Watchers meetings and go to the gym about 3-4 times a week. With her gone, it will be rough, but I am determined to lose the weight and adopt a lifestyle that will successfully keep it off. It’s a big deal; I am going for the golden ring. I have finally accepted that losing the weight is half the battle and maintenance is key to winning the war against being fat.

My cousin and I are a team. We support one another; we stop each other from bingeing, make sure that we don’t beat ourselves up if we have a set-back, and we give hurrahs when we lose the weight and accomplish things like a 5K walk.

Undoubtedly this will challenge me and I am frightened by it, but I must forge ahead.

Cuzzy is starting her own new adventure in a new land and part of me is excited for her. I will be cheering her on as she embarks on her journey.

And if it wasn’t for my determination to succeed, I’d eat a bucket of fried chicken in honor of my loss - yeah, like old times: Turning to food for comfort.

But I laugh in the face of adversity…HA!

Okay, I need to work on my laugh.
